Short documentary about an Afghan refugee footballer finding a home and community in a Yorkshire football club.

Commissioned by Warner Brothers as part of TNT's Reframe the Game scheme.

Screened at Sheffield Doc Fest and Leeds International Film Festival.

IMPACT

 

The film has ignited conversations about Afghan women's rights, the challenges refugees face coming to the UK, and the power of sporting communities across the UK. It's been profiled by Talk Sport radio, The Voice, and British Cinematographer.

In October 2025, the Harrogate Film Society hosted a community screening of the film. The Long Away Game was shown alongside two other films focusing on Afghan women's experiences, followed by a Q&A with Sabriah hosted by the former head of film at the British Council in Kabul, Tamanna Krami. In November, Channel 4 News ran a piece on the film and Sabriah's story. 

The film has been shown at school assemblies in the local area, educaitng young people about community and diversity.
